Our greatest need as followers of Christ and as a church is not to hold hands with one another and hum our most familiar worship songs. Our greatest need to adventure out into the world, the one all around us, and live out the principles of Christ. We need to live this out in our neighborhoods, and we need to get into unfamiliar neighborhoods. We need to get into our communities for the purpose of reaching people where they are and loving them. The purpose must not be just to get them to come to where we prefer to gather. But rather to display Jesus to them where they live. We need to bump into those who do not believe as we do and show them why what we believe matters. This can no longer be accomplished merely through generic invitations and admonitions that they should change to look more like us. We must follow the example of Christ in Matthew 9:35-38 to be with the people and to have compassion. To feel it in our gut, like Jesus did. Then we need to quit asking for others to go as the workers. Then we need to put one foot in front of the other and get next to the people in our towns, villages and cities.
Reminder: there is a Vacation Bible School workers meeting tonight at 6:30. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall.
